R. Kikuo Johnson
Norther Wester and I have been friends for well over a decade now. He's tipped me off on some fantastic books and music over the years, and a few days back he put a copy of R. Kikuo Johnson's "Night Fisher" into my hands. I read it cover-to-cover last night, and it's a lovely piece—a framed view of some of the aspects of Hawaiian life that aren't usually acknowledged by the tourist bureaus or the surf media. Johnson is a massively talented young artist, and I've been really digging the stuff he has at his site. A bunch of good links shoot off from it as well. Check it here.
Tonight's music is "Directions" by The Photographic.

Glad you liked the book. He manages to tell a great coming of age story without it sounding like American Pie. The cover for Night Fisher is one of the best around.
