The tables outside the Common Loaf are always a great place to meet some genuine characters, and I had a good chat there a few days back with Grant Shilling. He's a surfer, a fine writer and a fellow traveler; he's also the man behind The Cedar Surf, the only published history of surfing on the West Coast of Canada. His site has a bunch of his journalism, reviews of his book, and some neat archival material. It's well worth a visit, so click over and check it out here.
